Activities

Races

All racing opportunities are optional but offer a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself and grow as a skier. These events are designed to accommodate all skill levels, providing a supportive and motivating atmosphere for both beginners and seasoned racers. Participating in races helps build endurance, refine technique, and gain valuable experience in pacing and strategy. Beyond personal improvement, they are also a chance to connect with fellow club members, cheer each other on, and enjoy the camaraderie of friendly competition. Some of the races we've attended in the past are: Junior National Qualifiers (JNQs), CCSA invitationals, and the American Birkebeiner/Kortelopet.

Practices

The SMUMN Nordic Team offers optional practices throughout the year including dryland and regular on-snow practices.

Dryland
Dryland and regular practices are the foundation of a strong Nordic ski season. Dryland training, held in the off-season, focuses on building strength, endurance, and agility through activities like long and short distance running and strength exercises. These sessions prepare your body for the demands of skiing while improving overall fitness and technique.

On-Snow
Regular on-snow practices, once the season begins, emphasize refining ski skills, developing efficient techniques, and increasing stamina on the trails. Both types of practices are designed to complement each other, ensuring consistent progress. Attending practices regularly fosters discipline, builds confidence, and strengthens the sense of community within the club.
