Archbishop Fulton J Sheen was born May 8, 1895, in El Paso Illinois, to his parents Newt and Delia Sheen. Sheen altered served growing up. One of the times while he was serving, he had dropped a cruet full of wine. Afterward, Bishop Spalding came to him and told him Someday you will be just as I am. Sheen then was ordained in 1919 as a Catholic priest for the Diocese of Peoria. In 1926 Sheen started his teaching career at The Catholic University of America. While teaching, Sheen proceeded to write 34 books and another 32 post-teaching career. As mentioned, before he also had a TV show titled Life Is Worth Living, which he was awarded an Emmy for. This TV series contained 126 episodes ranging from a variety of topics, including but not limited to, the state of America, Communism, The Meaning of Love, Our Lady, and a list of other topics. He wrote many books about similar topics.
Sheen was ordained as bishop on June 11, 1951. Very shortly after his ordination, he began to film the series Life Is Worth Living with his notable end of the show being Bye now and God love you. In 1966 Bishop Sheen was named Bishop of the Diocese of Rochester, but only until 1969 when he resigned from that position. Sheen continued writing through his years preceding his resignation. Throughout his life, Archbishop Sheen attributed his lifes works as benefits from making a holy hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Archbishop Sheen died December 9,1979. Yet prior to his death he had his last interview just two months prior to his death. During his interview he was noted describing the different types of love and giving examples of how to love each other.
Archbishop Sheen's Cause for Canonization officially opened in 2002. The first miracle that was attributed to Sheen was the healing of James Fulton Engstrom
from Washington, Ill. James was born a still born and was pulseless for sixty-one minutes. Medical staff was prepared to pronounce James time of death, when
after his parents had prayed to Sheen asking for his intercession, James regained a pulse.
